HMWSA
2008 Newsletter Harvest-Monrovia Water, Sewer and Fire Protection Authority, Inc. (Authority) welcomes each new customer to the system. The Authority thanks each customer for your patience and cooperation this past year. The Authority is pleased to let each of you know the Water Plant on Burwell Road won the Best Operated Plant Award in the State for a groundwater plant with greater than 25,000 population for the third year in a row from the Alabama Water Pollution Control Association. The Authority is not eligible to compete with this plant for the next three years. 2007 was an unusual year for the water industry and the Authority. The extreme drought conditions caused problems the Authority does not normally deal with. Drought conditions for 2007 were the worst ever on record causing the Authority to implement mandatory water restrictions for the first time ever. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused but THANK each of you for your cooperation in the extreme situation. Conditions are still extreme with the rainfall shortage over the last 2 years at over 4 feet below average rainfall. With normal house hold use as exists now the Authority can safely supply the needs of the customers. We are monitoring the wells very closely to see if there are any improvements in the water levels over the winter and spring. Please conserve water through the next several months to help with the well conditions. The mandatory water restrictions were lifted as of November 15, 2007. Please be aware if the drought conditions do not improve over the next 6 months it is a very real possibility the Authority will have to implement conservation measures very early in 2008. During summer months water use goes from 4 to 4.5 million gallons per day normal use to 8.5 to 9 million gallons per day use. The increase is due to the lawn sprinkler systems in use. The Authority ask each customer with a sprinkler system to conserve use by shorter water times, cutting the frequency of water times and water between the hours of midnight and 4 am. Please conserve as much water as possible so mandatory restrictions will not have to be implemented this summer. Some improvements are being made to the system and water supply for 2008. A new Water Treatment Plant will be in operation by February of 2008 along with two additional wells that will supply 2 million gallons of water per day. The Authority expects this to be a help in the summer months. Even with these additional water supplies drought conditions will still have an extreme effect on the wells the Authority uses. Each July the Authority is required to supply each customer with a Consumer Confidence Report concerning the testing of the Drinking Water on the system. If you did not receive a copy of this report you can pick one up at our office located at 9131 Wall-Triana Hwy, Harvest, Al or go the website HMWATER.ORG to view the information. You can also keep up with drought information at this web site. The regular business hours are 8:00 am until 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Phone is 837-1132. The Authority has a Board Meeting on the second Tuesday of the Month at 1:30 pm, this meeting is open to the Public. The meetings are held at the office of the Authority 9131 Wall-Triana Hwy. If you have any question concerning the services of the Authority please contact us at any time. It is a pleasure to serve each of you.
